Dr. Mariea Snell, Associate Professor of Nursing and Assistant Director of DNP Programs, 2022 Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) Program Inductee
Dr. Mariea Snell
Dr. Mariea Snell is a practicing family nurse practitioner (FNP) and an associate professor of nursing and the assistant director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs at Maryville University. She has been working as an FNP since March 2011, and has been teaching Maryville students since August 2014. Although Dr. Snell has spent her entire career working to proactively change people’s lives for the better, she didn’t always know she wanted to become a nurse. It was during the early days of her educational journey that she realized the hands-on impact of working in a helping profession, such as nursing, spoke deeply to her.
Prior to coming to Maryville University, Dr. Snell worked in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at St. Louis University as a faculty member, teaching students about adult, geriatric, pediatric, and women’s health. She also worked for four years at Washington University in St. Louis as a research nurse in infectious diseases before earning her DNP.
In June 2022, Dr. Snell was inducted into the prestigious Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) program, joining a diverse and elite group of about 900 nurse practitioners who have made, and continue to make, a positive impact in the healthcare field.
Established in 2000, the FAANP program is dedicated to the advancement of nurse practitioners and the outstanding quality of healthcare they provide. Inductees are NPs who have been recognized for being leaders in their field, and who have made exceptional contributions to the fields of education, NP policy, research, and clinical practice.
Dr. Gail Pittroff, Associate Professor of Nursing, 2022 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty Recipient
Dr. Gail Pittroff has been a faculty member at Maryville University since 2015, teaching courses in several of Maryville’s nursing programs, including the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. In 2003, she earned a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies degree from Eden Theological Seminary, and in 2010, she received a PhD in Nursing from the University of Missouri–St. Louis.
Prior to coming to Maryville, Dr. Pittroff taught at St. Louis University and the Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College. She also worked for three years as a palliative care coordinator at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis.
In 2022, Dr. Pittroff was nominated by her students and colleagues to receive a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty.
Established in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease, Patrick’s family members created the Diseases Attacking the Immune System (DAISY) Foundation to honor the remarkable compassion and clinical skills of the nurses who cared for him. Several years later, the foundation created the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty to recognize and celebrate nursing faculty and the contributions they make to the field.
Dr. Pittroff is described by her students as being knowledgeable, highly educated, and a trusted mentor who shares her love of nursing with her students.
Dr. Jodi Green, Assistant Professor of Nursing, 2022 Maryville Faculty Spotlight Award
Dr. Jodi Green has been a faculty member at Maryville University since 2001. She currently teaches courses for the Master of Science in Nursing–Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN-FNP) program and is the clinical education coordinator for Maryville’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program.
Dr. Green earned her MSN with focus in public health from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2001 before going on to earn a Post-MSN Family Nurse Practitioner in 2007 from Maryville University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Missouri–Kansas City in 2014.
In April 2022, Dr. Green received a Maryville Faculty Spotlight Award. This award recognizes full-time faculty members for their exceptional performance in areas such as teaching, service, advising, student engagement, scholarship, professional development, and campus activities.
In addition to spending the past year working tirelessly on standardizing Maryville’s clinical courses across all nursing program concentrations, she’s also worked closely with other professors to hold live sessions at the end of each semester to help students submit their final assignments.
Over and above her dedication to her students, Dr. Green has spent the past 10 years working at the St. Luke’s Urgent Care center in St. Louis as a family nurse practitioner. During the COVID-19 outbreak, she worked late into the night ensuring that all patients in line got tested for COVID-19.
